Biography

Swiss Mezzo-Soprano, Elisabeth Mahler was born in Konstanz. After completing her vocal studies at Hochschule der Künste Bern, Ms. Mahler attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where she graduated from under the tutelage of former MET Opera Star, Mignon Dunn. While being a native German and French speaker, she has a superb command of 14 languages and dialects.

Hailed by audiences and critics for her powerhouse presence, extensive range and dramatic yet agile voice. At her recent debuts at Vienna's Konzerthaus and Carnegie Hall critics wrote "There are some singers who are aware that they sound good while they perform, but there was nothing self-ingratiating about Mahler’s stage presence. There was a rare purity in her voice and her emotions." "Ms. Mahler sang beautifully and heartily and looked incredibly thoughtful as she did it."

Since then she made debuts in Spoleto, Bern, Zürich, Luzern, Aarau, Basel, Konstanz, Nürnberg, Salzburg, Vienna, Houston, Quito and New York City. Besides her extensive song repertoire, her most important operatic roles include Amneris in Aida, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Adalgisa in Norma, Leonora in La Favorita, Arsace in Semiramide; French repertoire includes Dalila in Samson et Dalila, Carmen in Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, Iphigénie in Iphigénie en Tauride. Her German repertoire includes leading mezzo roles in Wagner´s ring, Venus in Tannhäuser, Ortrud in Lohengrin, Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde as well as Octavian in Rosenkavalier. Her Spanish repertoire includes La Vida Breve and El Amor Brujo. Her most recent repertoire on concert stage include Gustav Mahler's Rückert-Lieder, Kindertotenlieder, Das Lied von der Erde, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Symphony No. 2 as well as Richard Wagner´s Wesendonck-Lieder and Pauline Viardot´s Mazurkas after Fryderyk Chopin.

Highlights of previous seasons include her performances in Europe, North and South America at Wiener Konzerthaus, Moores Opera House in Houston, Merkin Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, Auditorio de Zaragoza in Spain, Alte Residenz zu Salzburg and Leopoldskron Palace's Great Hall, Vienna's Hofburg und Royal Palace Theatre Schönbrunn, Berner Münster, Opernhaus Aarau, Rathaus Murten, Schloss Rosenegg, Konzerthaus Fischingen, Wolkenstein Saal in Konstanz, Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto, State Opera Varna Theatre and Filarmonica Casa de la Música in Quito. Her live performances have been broadcasted by ORF, New York's WQXR and Radio Stephansdom in Vienna.
